A new world

The top of the foot of an old is visible.

She’s back from hospital. The medicines are new. The diet is different, though not by much. The planned stay at hospital went as well as it could have.

Her husband is gone. The stay felt different, without his presence. She was at sea, only for a bit. Slowly, she is getting used to the rise and ebb of this new boat.

The caretaker is the same. The empathy feels familiar. The care is comforting. Asking for more from another human righit now seems a stretch.

Uncomfortable was the hospital bed. It made her want to come home. This was a first. Comforting was that there was no emergency that had taken her there.

Baths happen earlier now. Her mind rebels. Her body revels. The day does not feel as stretched as it used to be.

Medicines are more equitable. No ten at a time, twenty nine a day. As of now, the medicines and the body seem at peace with each other.

He is not coming back. Memories are not going away. She sleeps or reads to be. These distractions seem to be working better than news channels – the earlier distractions.

She is lying on the bed. The left side is empty. It will not be used often. A constant reminder that she could do without.

She is scared of change. She longs for continuity. The new world does not care. It is here and she is living in it as well as is possible.

  1. A very realistic look at the frustration caused when one has to learn to live with health issues and death of spouse. Not easy. I’m glad I have Jesus to ease a bit with his peace.
