Choices, choices . .

Today’s post is about questions. There is no story, yet.

I am grappling with how and when i choose to write stories. Do i put what happens — the fact(s) — before the opinion or statement? Do i first state the opinion and then explain it? What makes more sense, when and why?

This is where i have got as yet.

There are times when i intentionally want the reader to form their own opinions through the happenings of the story. I do not want to tell them what i am thinking and insert myself into the words and cover the story. In those moments, what is happening holds their hand and leads them on. Where they reach is up to them.

There are also times when i want the reader to see exactly as i am seeing, feel exactly as i am feeling. At those times, my statements are signals to feel and see as i am. Whether they do so or not is still up to them.

Then there are stories where i, as the person doing the writing, use both according to what feels appropriate and mess up a structure, if there is one.

What devices do you use while writing? What guides those choices? Please leave your comments so we, or atleast i, can learn from them.
